The Beaver Budget 1920 Edition

THE BEAVER BUDGET
PUBLISHED ANNUALLY BY THE BEAVER CAMP ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION
OFFICERS FOR 1920-1921
PRESIDENT ANNE BARTON TOWNSEND
SECRETARY ELIZABETH P. FRAZIER
VICE PRESIDENT FRANCES J. ROSS
TREASURER MARGARET FERGUSON

Editorial

ONCE more the Budget fares forth on its mission of carrying the Beaver greeting to an ever-widening circle of Beavers.
Four years ago the first Budget left here--a new venture, but bound to succeed by reason of the spirit behind it. That it has justified the faith we put in it is apparent to us all. Today it comes back to us, bigger and better, with an ever-growing circulation, and an ever-increasing influence among those of us who have the right to call ourselves Beavers.

Although the succeeding pages are filled with the activities and achievements of the Beavers of 1919, the Budget belongs no more to them than to the Beavers of 1911 and all the following summers. It is their work and play, their enthusiasm and influence, that largely account for what the name Beaver represents today, and though their names do not often appear between these covers, the history of the splendid summer of 1919 belongs just as truly to them as to those who spent nine weeks last year at Beaver Camp.

Therefore remember, those of you to whom the names of the Moderns and Classics of 1919 are unfamiliar, that you have the right to feel proud of their achievements. What prompted and inspired them was Beaver influence--you are apart of that influence. Read the succeeding pages and be glad that you helped to create such a record.

Reunion

The Fourth Beaver Camp Reunion

Baltimore, February 13th, 14th and 15th, 1920.

Friday, February 13th:
Who says we're superstitious! Friday, the thirteenth, and not a Beaver failed to turn up on that account, The grand and glorious influx of Reunionites occurred about 5.30 on the afternoon of the eventful Friday, and surely the few rash outsiders whose misguided fates led their steps in the direction of Union Station at that fateful hour on Friday afternoon must have had the shock of their young lives, and thought that another .... Armistice Day was upon them. Poor things, they are probably still wondering what struck them. The Re-union then descended on Mrs. Riggs, and there proceeded to demonstrate that Maine air is not alone responsible for Beaver appetites. We had the most delicious food, and I'm sure we all join in a vote of thanks to Mrs. Riggs, Marie and Charlotte for a most wonderful tea party. As by that time it was nearing seven, we parted reluctantly for an hour, after which lengthy period we again joined forces, thanks to Miss Eager's hospitality, at "Chimney Corner," which we all agree is "perfectly great." Once assembled upstairs we proceeded to let Baltimore know that we had arrived by indulging in a little cheer practice, but soon settled down to real business, until the arrival of the most delicious ice cream and cake, gave us another use for our vocal organs. After the camp song and the camp prayer, we parted for the night and wended our way bedward.

Saturday, February 14th:
St. Valentine's Day found us all still going strong, when we assembled in the Bryn Mawr gymnasium at 10.30 to do battle with the B. M. S basketball team. It surely was a battle. and an exciting one at that, for the final score stood, B. M. S.. 24: B. C.. 21. But then, as the mainstays of the Bryn Mawr team were Beavers, what could you expect? After some violent managing, we were all transported to the Baltimore Country Club for luncheon, for which 67 Beavers turned up. After speeches, songs and the most delicious food, we indulged in the Beavers' favorite indoor sport until it was time to leave for the Wickes's. We all finally arrived about seven o'clock, to find the irresistible combination of a marvelous orchestra and a wonderful dance floor. We even danced between courses of dinner, and afterwards exhibited every kind of dance (?), from the shimmy to the waltz. I know we all agree there never has been such a glorious party, and that a unanimous vote of thanks goes to the whole Wickes family for contributing so largely to the success of the Re-union. But all good things come to an end some time, and we departed at a very late hour to snatch a few moments' sleep before the Sunday activities.

Sunday, February 15th:
A few energetic ones assembled at St. Paul's for church on Sunday morning, but the full quota of the Re-union was not made up until we met at Snip Young's for luncheon. Baltimoreans surely do have the best food, and this luncheon was certainly no exception. Having eaten as much as we could, and then some, we met to elect the Beaver Camp Alumnae Association officers for 1920-1921 and to sing the Captain, Flag and Camp songs. Most of the out-of-town Re-unionites left about five o'clock, voting this the nicest Re-union ever, for which we want to extend a vote of thanks to Miss Gamble for all her hard work and all the Baltimore Beavers and their families for their hospitality. We most certainly have our work cut out for us next year to keep the standard of the Re-union up to the mark the one of 1920 has set.
