Comments from a meeting of the Hope Historical
Society in 2010: Hobbs Pond from just east of public beach on Artie Sprowl's
land. Facing Hatchet Mountain.
1940-48. Revealing photo. Water level before John Salisbury & friends
build small dam between Hobbs & Fish in 1950s in hope of stocking trout
and salmon. Note beach and stone wall (now submerged). Modest reed growth.
Note pole. In distance, P.A.Jones property shows distribution of waterfront
installation to rental cabins. Hatchet Mountain Camp ended in 1938 and
was converted to rental camps. Hatchet Mountain is already fully wooded.
