HOPE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

April 19, 2016 Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 P.M. by President Donovan Bowley. Also present were Gwen and Dick Brodis, Ann Leadbetter, Bob Appleby, Bill and Judith Jones, Tom and Nancy Ford, Mary Ireland, Marie Berry, Ron Smith, Barbara Ludwig, Guests, Fred and Victoria Bucklin from Appleton’s Historical Society and Linda Hillgrove.

Minutes of the November and December 2015 meetings were summarized by Secretary Linda Hillgrove and unanimously approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Treasurer Gwen Brodis presented the results from December 2015 to April 17, 2016. Motion to accept was unanimously received.

WEBMASTER: Bob Appleby stated there was nothing new to report.

Bill Jones gave an update on bottle returns. When cashing in your uncrushed bottles let the staff at Coastal Opportunities know the money will be donated to HHS and sign the receipt they provide. Bill collects about $100 per month for HHS.

NEW BUSINESS” Donovan showed an example of inside storm windows for the Faith L. Hart Room which are made of wood and plastic made by Window Dressers of Rockport. They are computer sawed to fit even/uneven windows.

A suggestion to sell maps of “Hope of 1859” to help raise funds was made by Donovan. He said Deer Foot Farm will display these large photo maps of Appleton and Hope with information on how to contact the prospective historical societies to order them.

Volunteers are needed for yard clean up, lawn mowing arrangements, and doing something about the damaged tree in the front yard, labeling donated items and setting up displays in the barn, Marie Berry has raked and cleaned up the outside yard. Dick Brodis has taken window wells out and numbered and stored them in the upper garage and removed cellar windows for ventilation. See Gwen or Donovan to arrange times.

If anyone knows of two Civil War sharpshooter graves “near junction of Payson Path and old Morey Hill Road end near Hobbs Pond” please contact the Hope Historical Society.

A Nominating Committee for fall elections will be set up – report back in September for October Annual Meeting. If you would like to serve on that committee, please contact Donovan.

PROGRAM COORDINATOR: Ann Leadbetter introduced Neal Lash, co-founder and director of internationally recognized Heirloom Seed Project at Medomak Valley High School.

Refreshments were provided by Gwen Brodis and Ann Leadbetter. Contact Gwen to provide refreshments for future meetings.
