HOPE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

DRAFT FOR SEPTEMBER  2018

Meeting was called to order by President Donovan Bowley at 9:30 A.M. Those attending were: Donovan Bowley, Gwen Brodis, Ann Leadbetter, Bill Jones, Judith Jones, Emily Saladino, Peter Saladino, Cynthia DellaPenna, James DellaPenna, Nancy Ford, Marie Berry, Ron Smith, Juanita Hunt, Barbara Ludwig and Linda Hillgrove. Guests were Viola Richardson and Bernice Gleason and Speaker, Bruce Gamage.

SECRETARY’S REPORT: Secretary, Linda Hillgrove, summarized the Minutes for the August 18, 2018 meeting which was unanimously accepted.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Treasurer, Gwen Brodis, reported a Balance of $13,872.48 in Savings and $565.63 in Checking, which was unanimously accepted. Gwen reported that parts of the garage roof need re-shingling and the chimney flue needs repairing or replacing. Thursday the chimney will be cleaned and repairs done around the clean out. Also, an estimate will be done regarding garage roof repairs.

NEW BUSINESS: The Nominating Committee consisting of Mary Ireland, Marie Berry and Linda Hillgrove will meet before the October 16th Annual Meeting regarding nomination of officers. President, Donovan Bowley, will not run for President and Gwen Brodis will no longer be in charge of the Bake Sale held on Election Day, November 13th.

Thanks go out to Marie Berry and all who helped raise $516.50 from the food/yard sale in August.

OLD BUSINESS: Emily Saladino is going to put information regarding the Traveling Trunk onto the HHS web site in order to get more articles and storie . She has had a good response in gathering articles and stories for the Traveling Trunk but needs more items. Emily has also tried to get Hope Grange records from the State but was told they were lost.

PROGRAM CHAIR: Program Chair, Ann Leadbetter, introduced Antique Dealer and Auctioneer, Bruce Gamage, who appraised items brought in by members. He said younger people have no interest in “brown” items from their parents or grandparents nor antique stores. China is not desirable as they are not microwaveable or dishwasher safe. Ten cent comics are “hot” now. He has been busy appraising Robert Indiana’s art collection but still

The Annual Meeting on October 16th will start at 6:00 P.M. with a pot luck supper followed by our Business Meeting. Forester, Paul Miller, will be speaker after the meeting. Please bring food to share and your own place settings.
