HOPE HISTORICAL SOCIETY MINUTES

September 19, 2023


The meeting was called to order by President, Juanita Hunt, at 6:30 followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. There were 11 members in attendance including: Marie Berry, Margaret Morse, Gwen Brodis, Bill Jones, Judith Jones, Catherine Pease, Ron Smith, Bruce Linthicum, Linda Black and acting Secretary, Linda Ludwig Hillgrove.

Secretary's Report: Secretary, Cynthia DellaPenna, was not available for this meeting but her on line minutes were accepted with no abstentions.

Treasurer's Report: Treasurer, Gwen Brodis, reported an income of $299.66; Expenses of $510.73; Balance in Checking of $699.70; and Balance in Savings of $22,972.40.

Old Business: Margaret Morse updated us on the cranberry bog tour with Margo Moody. We are to meet at the HHS home for lunch at 11:30 A.M. then proceed to Rt 235 S for 3.1miles, Turn Left on Martin Corner Rd; Right on Heal Rd for 4.2 miles to 154 Heal Rd on the right and the Bog is surrounded by a white rope fence. Tour begins at 1:00 P.M.

Marie Berry has helpers lined up for the Fall Apple Fling to be held Sunday, October 8th from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. We will be selling raffle tickets, $1.00 per ticket or 6 tickets for $5.00 and apple pie slices for $5.00; whole apple pies for $20.00; along with other goodies made with apples, i.e. squares, cookies, jellies or jam, cake, etc.

Bunny Gleason was unable to attend but she is working on the "True" Civil War letters.>

New Business: We had a discussion regarding the number of members for the Nominating Committee which will need to be researched as we need an uneven number.

Gifts recently donated include a lovely old hand made cradle donated by Dan Smily. Margaret Morse donated a Boston school desk and a Judd ink well and pen which belonged to her mother-in-law, Ruth Nash Morse.

Tuesday, October 17th is our Annual Nominating Committee and Pot Luck dinner at 6 P.M. at the Hope Fire Department. Please bring your own place setting and food to share. Drinks will be provided.
